Take a Break Take a Holiday...

...all this talk about work - oops creative activity - makes me think about holidays.

You know last year I took a one week break in May then worked through to Christmas non-stop. Result: declining performance. Well I did know I'd be away in January for a month. But none the less things were not going as well as they should.

So January came and I took that well earned break. Result: I came back with renewed vigour. Things moved on much better and much quicker.

So for the remainder of this year I've promised myself that I'll take a break every twelve weeks or so. Just so I can keep fresh.

The other thing I noticed about taking a break is that I forgot all the detail. All that remained in my mind was my overall goals and vision. That was there at the back of my mind quietly resurfacing above all the daily clatter of detail.

So... Easters here... have a great mini-break and give your brain that well earned rest. Just putting in ever more hours to achieve your goals can be non-productive.

It's quality effort that counts. And you can't put that in if your brain needs a good rest and de-frag.

Have a great Easter.

Work Who Needs It...

... It's that four letter word again. Conjures up a whole host of negative feelings in me. Probably because I've spent too much of my time as an employee selling my time or even as a freelance consultant and trainer doing the same.

Since then it's all changed. I don't do work anymore. Not that I'm retired either. I hope I never do. Too much chance of getting bored and losing your purpose in life. Which incidentaly will keep you alive - literally!

No, work is out- creative activity is in. What's the difference? Alot.

Those two words sum it up nicely for me. Firstly, creativity and imagination are more powerful than knowledge (Einstein said so, so it must be true). And nothing happens unless you take action.

Put the two together and you have a much more powerful way of thinking, being and doing.

But what's all this creative activity about? It's about multiple, recurring independant revenue streams.

And yes, you probably will go to bed tired, you will be challenged and there will be obstacles to be overcome (many of them in your mind and nowhere else!)

So have a very nice creative and active day.

A Big Hello... and A Big Thank You

...to everyone on David Cavanagh's Internet Marketing Teleclass - it's a great privilage to be part of this group.

And a very big thank you to David for allowing me to mention the LozBlogz. I hope it provides a little encouragment to others to see that these things can be done.

I know that when you're new to something the thoughts in your mind can defeat you before you start. So don't let the gremlins in. Take action just one step at a time and you'll get there!

Being the original techno-clutz even I was amazed at how easy it was to set up a blog!

For all those of you who have dropped by and aren't a part of David Cavanagh's teleclass - hello to you too.

I was first introduced to David at the first UK World Internet Summit in 2004. It was clear that David absolutely knew his stuff. Signing up to his Internet Marketing teleclass was an absolute 'No Brainer'.

The whole programme lasts a massive 52 weeks! This fits very well with me because it'll give me access to David directly whilst I'm building my own web business as I build it piece by piece...

It's always good to have someone who understands what you're doing and can mentor you along the way.

Check out David's sites:

Also, if you haven't checked it out yet the next World Internet Summit is in the UK May 19-22 in London. Follow the link...

I would recommend the WIS to anyone who wants to get involved in Internet Marketing.

For me this event was absolutely pivotal. Why? Because at last I discovered what I didn't know about Internet Marketing. My eyes were opened to this whole New World.

Lower Literacy Users and the Internet

...well that's what Jakob Nielson calls them, not me. In my first prototype web site I built I focused very heavily on useability issues. Having discovered Jakob Nielson I subscribed to his newsletter.

Since then my interest in useability has diminished to almost zero. Why? Because if you're using the one page sales letter format useability is much simplified.

Really all you have to do is scroll down, hopefully with a wheel mouse. Then click to order if you're sold.

Then Jakob's most recent newsletter hit my e-mail in box. Now I'm thinking again.

There's too much to cover (as in re-type) so best I give you the link. www.useit.com

If your writing direct marketing response sales letters published on the internet then you'll find Jakob's article on Low Literacy Users (March 14) of great interest.

It also covers the needs of other people on the web like teenagers and senior citizens, their special needs and problems.

Check it out... It might help boost your conversion rate.

The DNA of Business: People, Process and Technology

It doesn't matter what business you look at there are only three main things to think about: People, Process and Technology.

That means that if you look at Internet Marketing, say, and you think it's about technology you'll be wrong.

Sure, without Internet technology, and all that goes with it, you wouldn't be able to do much. If anything.

So just because you think you know something about the internet and computers, don't assume that knowing that on it's own will lead to success. Because quite simply it won't.

That means that in the case of Internet Marketing it's an opportrunity that's open to everyone. Particualrly people who understand the people and process issues.

Going back to my software development days. Most projects that failed didn't fail because of technical problems.

They failed because the people and process issues were not understood.

At the end of the day it's about people and processes that exist, in and on, a technical infrastructure. And there are lots of technical people out there that can help you with that.

So stay focused on the people and processes. Because that's where the real money is.

Let's Get Passionate...

...you know it took me a while to get really passionate about something. When I did something strange happened. I got passionate about something else too. And something else... and something else...

Once you get into this frame of mind it's almost impossible to stop becoming passionate about things.

Why is this so important to you? It's a very good way of more than filling your current space.

Because that has alot to do with how well you'll do in life!

So get passionate to propel yourself headlong into the future you crave and deserve. It's inside you desperate to get out! So set it free!

69th Anniversary of the First Flight of the....

... Supermarine Type 300. Better known to all as the Spitfire. 69 years ago on March the 5th 1936 the prototype took off from Eastleigh aerodrome in England.

A legend was born. And thank God it was too. And today it's still a stunning sight in the sky.

Not the most appropriate blog for this site, I know. But I'll be starting a hobby and interests Lozblog quite soon and I'll move it to that. So for the time being here it is until it's moved.

If you want to know more about this classic aircraft, I've put together a site at www.supermarine.co.uk

If you go there you'll see a message from 1931 that's as relevant today as it ever was.

New Web Site And Product Announcements

... there's nothing like committing to delivery dates in public. So here they are!

End March 2005

www.LozWilson.com
This is my hub site. In it you'll find out more about what I'll be doing and why it could be interesting and important to you.

There'll also be stuff about my background and credentials to back up what I'm saying, doing and offering.

www.PropertyFortunes.com
This'll launch the first few products in the 'How to... Profit From Property' series of tools and e-books.

  • 1. Developers Workbook Toolkit
  • 2. The Secrets of a Professional Property Developer
  • 3. Companion Guides: Negotiate to Succeed

These have been developed with huge input from my business partner in this venture, a successful and long standing property developer.

You know, and I know too from my experiences, it's very easy to get it wrong in property development. It's all to easy to overlook things and either fail to do, or get wrong, basic but vital sums and calculations.

The end result is alot of wasted time and a lost profit. These first product offerings help here by way of checklists, marketing and cost evaluation spreadsheet workbooks. Together with a defined process for property development that helps you understand what to do with hints and tips along the way.

These can be used to help you decide whether or not to buy a particular development property. And if you do, to help you track and manage costs to ensure you achieve your target profit.

End April 2005

'How Not To... Build A Web Site For Profit'
This takes a close look at my very first web site attempt and why it didn't deliver like I wanted. It goes on to introduce what I should've done and am doing now.

It'll also contain an overview of the topics you'll need to be familiar with if you want to succeed in Internet Marketing. A sort of syllabus, or road map, for self study and advancement in this area.

So if you're a newbie, you'll want this! I wish I'd had it. That's for sure!

'How To... Turn Your Dreams Into Reality'
This is something that sort of just happened. It's based on the 'Wheel of Life' idea as used by Life Coaches.

It'll help you systematically figure out what you want to Do, Be and Have so you can set your goals. And that's where it sayed for a while. Something kept niggling away at me.

Why? Because I knew something was missing. Something absolutely vital! Well now I've found it. And it was as obvious as the nose on my face! But it took a couple of 'Old Hands' and a younger mind to help me see the light.

Just writing this e-book helped me hugely in setting and understanding my own goals. And now it's almost done, it would be just plain rude not to share it with you too.

To Blog Or Not To Blog... That Is The Question...

...well if you're here you're looking at a blog. So what's a blog or more precisely a weblog?

Well, apart from anything else - which I'll come onto in a minute - it's a series of web pages. So no change there then!

But, as I'm discovering, blogging software is a neat way of keeping web content fresh and up to date - easily. And without having to know much (if anything) about building web sites too.

So this could be very useful for anyone wanting to launch a new career in Internet Marketing.

It's also leaving me with an important decision to make about how I build the www.lozwilson.com hub site. Do I use Frontpage, my chosen web development tool. Or do I use some form of blogging software? Or even a combination of the two?

As it happened I stumbled over a useful e-book that got me started in blogging. It's called 'RSS Made Easy' try www.rss-made-easy.com . And I didn't have to break the bank to get it either!

Errr... did you see that... One minute I'm talking about blogs and the next RSS. Unforgivable! Confused? And what's RSS anyway? It stands for 'Really Simple Syndication' or 'Rich Site Summary'.

Still confused? I don't blame you. Neither of these names say too much about what's really going on here.

You see Blogs and RSS and linked. And the buzz is that RSS is the Next Big Thing (NBT) on the Internet. As an alternative to e-mail! Remember, E-mail is a Push technology and RSS is a Pull technology.

It's a question of control and who has it: the web site owner or you!

Well, like so many other NBTs on the Internet we'll have to wait and see. But it doesn't do any harm to get a basic understanding of what it is and why it could be important to you.

Why? Because the really big players are starting to take an interest. And you can bet monitorisation will follow soon.

Stay Tuned to The LozBlogz...

But Lets Be Upfront...

... one of the things I'm not is an expert, particularly in Internet Marketing. So why should anyone be interested in someone like that? A very good question.

So I'd better have a good answer, right! Well I have!

You see since about October 2004 I've been investing in my education in Internet Marketing. (As well as other things like Direct Mail, Coaching and Property Development and Investment.)

Frankly, I've spent a small fortune on seminars, courses, tele-seminars, e-books, books etc etc...

And for Internet Marketing, in particular, I had discovered that I didn't know that I didn't know about Internet Marketing. So making an investment in all this stuff made excellent business sense.

After all, the people I had bought this stuff from were all pioneers in figuring out what works and what doesn't work. And by studying them, at a cost, I could learn repeatable patterns that they had used successfully. Patterns I could take and use right now!

But without all the pain of repeating their learning curve!

So how will that help you? Well what I'll be doing over the coming weeks and months, is to provide you with a review of the products and services I've bought. And I'll continue buying more for the forseeable future too! Learning never stops!

But perhaps even more importantly, I'll also be providing you with a review of what I learnt, what worked (for me) and what didn't and perhaps more importantly why!

Because, particularly, if you're a newbie to Internet Marketing, this might be very useful for you to know. It could save you a ton of effort, heartache, time and cash!

For example, I know one tiny piece of Internet Marketing information that could have saved me from spending at least $1,500 and not tied up $5,000 in cash!

So What Am I All About...?

... personal advancement. At least that's what I'm calling it for now. It's much more than financial independance and it's certainly not a GRQS (Get Rich Quick Scheme). There's no such thing! So here's a summary of what I'm about:

  • Personal Development and Coaching
  • Direct Marketing: On and Off-line
  • The Internet
  • Product, Service and Software: Sourcing and Development
  • Property
  • Wealth Creation
  • Life-style and Healthy Living

These topics will be the basis of a new web site I'll be publishing soon at www.lozwilson.com

But why have I picked these topics? I've got some very special reasons why.

And if they're good for me, could they be good for you too?

Stay tuned to The LozBlogz... All will be revealed... And soon...

The Truth Is...

... I'm already about a year into the programme. The first 12 months proved to me that I didn't know what I didn't know about Internet Marketing - a key part of what I'm about. And I made all the classic mistakes of a newbie stumbling about in the dark.

But... to my credit I did take action, I did build a web site, I did create some e-books and I did publish the site... But like many software projects - and an internet marketing web site is a software project - they tend to be scrapped first time around! Ouch!

But that's what I did. But only after learning from my mistakes, recycling the material and changing the whole approach.

Stay tuned The LozBlogz to find out:

  • what I was doing wrong - that you need to avoid if you don't want to waste 12 precious months out of your life, like I did!
  • what I'm doing now - that you need to exploit to achieve your goals!

... and more besides...
